cotton, earth and cocteaus

I can’t believe how crazy things have gotten all of the sudden! Between getting my intercultural trainer certification in Berlin, getting ready for my brother’s wedding in Hawaii, planning a visit to a friend in Luxembourg, preparing to teach my first intercultural communications seminar (also Berlin), dealing with tax stuff, and getting new courses here in Köln,  I’m freaking out a bit.  To deal with the stress, first of all, new vintage sewing project.  Second, gardening.  Third, I’m going on a total dream pop kick.  When things get stressful, it’s like ‘putting on an old sweater and snuggling under the blankets’ comforting.

Here’s what I’m making:

the red one in the middle

using the skirt on the right instead o the one in the original. Both are from 1932.

with this fabric from Max Mara. I think it will look hot with a white blouse with puff sleeves and a men's tie.

In other news, my Mr. Stripey and pink accordion tomatoes have started to grow actual tomatoes!  My green sausage ones are doing well, but I’m having a problem with blossom end rot.  I’ve put on some calcium rich organic fertilizer, so helpfully that helps things!  Also, there are snapdragons.

Here’s what I’m growing:

gave the creeping pumpkin from outer space a trim today. One of these days I'm going to wake up and find my entire flat overgrown and the plant standing over me, leering.

mr. stripey. best name for a tomato ever.

my cucumber plant has finally decided to get its ass in gear

And here’s what I’m listening to:

Part the second

First of all, I just wanted to say how much fun the internations party was! Of course I used the event as an excuse to go vintage 🙂

The dress is original 30’s/40’s, and I used Superkawaiimama’s barrel roll tuturial for roll.

In other news, my 20’s wine glasses have landed, and they’re incredible!

My 20’s bowl impulse buy also arrived, and it matches the wine glasses perfectly! It’s bigger than I thought it would be, but I think it will make a nice fruit or soup bowl?

I’m trying to find vintage plates and bowls for eating, but haven’t found a single thing! Serving plates and bowls, cutlery, cups, everything else but actual dishes for eating. Is there some black market where they’re all being traded?! Anyone know where I can find some?

Have a great Saturday! Here’s some Lola Albright to play you off

Two Things…

Not much to report today, so I’ll post the two coolest things I’ve seen in ages.

The first is ArcAttack playing the old school Dr. Who theme song on, wait for it, singing Tesla coils. Pure Brilliance

The second is the Big Lebowski. As Shakespeare would have written it.  As the dude sayeth, GOLD!

It had me in stitches for a good few hours!

Enjoy your Sunday!

The Point of No Return

Well, that’s that. I am now a total, utter geek, and I am not ashamed.   I just bought the soundtrack to a video game. That’s right, a video game.  What can I say?  That said, the Dragon Age Origins soundtrack is better than any movie soundtrack I’ve ever heard, and it’s what made it one of my favorite games of all times. I just couldn’t help myself.  It’s available on Amazon and itunes, and I am blatantly plugging the album here. Buy it. Seriously.

I mean, listen to this:

and this

and this

I mean, this is from a VIDEO GAME.  Bioware, I think I love you.

Some Peter Broderick and Faye Wong

I won’t be posting again until Monday, so I thought I’d leave you with two of my favorite musical obsessions:

Peter Broderick’s music is an absolute obsession of mine, and this is the (in my opinion) best song he’s done so far. If you ever find an album of his, buy it. You won’t regret it!

And the lovely Faye Wong, who hasn’t done a single thing I haven’t loved yet, and was probably one of the most versatile artists out there.
